EX-GRAPHIUM. Two sgraffito projects for Mollet

14/03/2018

From April 12 to June 17, 2018 /

Opening: Thursday 12 April, 7.30 pm

Counted are the facades of Mollet which are decorated with sgraffito. And more unusual are the sgraffito from the middle of the 20th century. In this case, we present the templates and drawings of two sgraffito projects made about 25 years ago for two facades of Mollet, the Roca Bread Oven and the House of the Painter Abelló. For various reasons, neither of them could be executed. The two also have in common their author, the Mollet technical architect Josep M. Blanch, a friend of Abelló and with whom he shared a passion for collecting.

Josep M. Blanch’s interest in sgraffito came from the hand of Ferran Serra Sala (Fernandinus Serra). After decorating the facade of his house, Santiago Roca and Joan Abelló, attracted by the beauty of the sgraffito, commissioned him to decorate the respective façades. Sketches, life-size drawings and even templates were made to be able to transfer the drawings to the wall. Eventually, however, only one of the graffiti was made in the inner courtyard of the Roca Bread Oven. Today, we can admire the process of elaboration of the two projects that, if they had been carried out, would have provided a great beauty to two singular facades of Mollet.

This exhibition has been produced by the Abelló Museum.
