The Abelló Museum has donated to the CaixaForum one of its most representative works for the traveling exhibition “Blue. The color of Modernism”. This is the work Coves de Mallorca, by Joaquim Mir.

From May 3 to August 25, the large-format work of the Catalan painter Joaquim Mir will be exhibited at the CaixaForum in Seville as part of an exhibition on Modernism. The painting is part of the Abelló collection and is one of the most outstanding works in the Museum’s permanent exhibition.

The work Coves de Mallorca is an oil painting on canvas, which was part of the decoration of the Casa Trinxet that Joaquim Mir had made for his uncle. It is a large work, 190×220 cm. During the transfer of the work, the Abelló Museum has replaced it with a life-size reproduction.

The exhibition Blue. The color of Modernism is immersed in the spirit of an era, the period of the late s. XIX and early s. XX, marked by the presence of blue and its connotations. The exhibition is curated by Teresa M. Sala, Professor of Art History at the University of Barcelona, who has collaborated with the Abelló Museum on several occasions. Mir’s work occupies a prominent place in the exhibition and has been the fund chosen to present the exhibition. Teresa M. Sala

The exhibition will be in Seville until August 25 and will then be exhibited at the CaixaForum in Zaragoza and Palma, until the summer of 2020.
