El Mollet d'Abelló
From February 7 to 10 May, 2009
Abelló's Mollet presents a walk around of the city of Mollet, visiting the places which inspired Joan Abelló. From the fields, reminder of a lost rural landscape; the stations, certain historical buildings (such as Marfà o l’Ateneu); to the farmhouses in the old outskirts. Besides this, other works displayed depict events which have marked the lives of people from Mollet, such as: the floods, the millennium or the Quatre Cantons bombing. In addition, the show revisits the Garriganga and the Camàlic de l'estació, two popular characters in the city of Mollet.
The exposition tour ends in Gallecs, which inspired, among others, La Suite de les Catedrals.
The extent and variety of Abelló works would allow for several different displays, but we considered that at the moment of celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Museum, a display reviewing the relation between the city and the painter would be the most suitable one. The decease of Joan Abelló, at the moment we were giving the show the finishing touches, has turned a celebration into a moving tribute. The best tribute from his museum, the best tribute from his city.
