Brossa and Abelló

From November 21st to January 5th /

Documentary space “Brossa and Abelló”

The friendship between Brossa and Abelló dates back to the 1950s. During all these years, books and objects were exchanged. Brossa often visited Abelló’s studio in Mollet, where they read forbidden books, listened to music and improvised theater.

In the late 1950s, and privately in Abelló’s studio, Joan Brossa, Pere Portabella and Joan Abelló, with the participation of some spontaneous members of the public, parodied the political, social and religious atmosphere of the era in a theatrical action with improvised dialogues that they recorded in an audio (you can listen to the original unpublished recording in the exhibition or here).

In the year 62, it premiered in Abelló’s studio Aquí al bosc, in Brossa. Cirlot, Santos Torroella, Tharrats, Ràfols Casamada, etc. will attend.

In 1991, the 1st International Magic Days were organized in Mollet, which were presented by Joan Brossa. For the second day, the following year, Brossa designed the poster and organized an exhibition.

In 1998, Brossa designed a mural for the side façade of the new City Council’s institutional building.

Abelló, a contemporary of Dau al Set, was always fascinated by the work of this group. As a great collector, he went to visit Tharrats and bought him some originals that the artists had given away for the magazines. Today the Foundation is showcasing a beautiful collection of this movement.
