The Abelló Museum houses the Vallès Notebook by the painter Joaquim Mir, thanks to a deposit in the Joan Abelló Municipal Foundation.

For a few weeks now, people visiting the Casa del Pintor can admire, at the entrance, the notebook on the Vallès that the painter Joaquim Mir made during his stay in Mollet del Vallès, at the beginning of the century. XX.

Joaquim Mir i Trinxet (Barcelona, 1873), a renowned Catalan painter, lived for a few years in Mollet, where he took the opportunity to paint the landscapes of Mollet and the Vallès. Among the notes, we find a sketch of Can Magre de Mollet, where Mir painted his famous painting “The oak and the cow”, which is currently in the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid.

When the young Joan Abelló began painting, Mir was inspired by and toured the spaces he had painted years before in the vicinity of Mollet. For this reason, Abelló considers Mir as his first teacher.

The Abelló Collection has twenty works by Mir, including “Coves de Mallorca”, a large painting that was part of the decoration of the modernist Casa Trinxet and that we can enjoy in the permanent exhibition of the Museum , although it is currently in the traveling exhibition “Blue, the color of modernism”, at the CaixaForum in Zaragoza.
