The Abelló Museum has renewed and expanded the permanent exhibition Modern Art in the Abelló Collection, 19th and 20th centuries, with the aim of adapting it to new ways of communicating. The exhibition opened in 2007 when Joan Abelló made a second donation of works to the Foundation.

This update includes 22 new works, such as Isidre Nonell’s Porta de l’estudi and the sculpture of the dancer Loie Füller (by Eusebi Arnau) in the field of Modernism; o The girl of the braids (by Joan Rebull), in the field of the Generation of 1917 and figurative Independents. The area that has expanded the most is that of Satire, with new works by Ismael Smith and illustrations for satirical magazines. Elements of the collection’s documentary collection have also been incorporated, such as a copy of the satirical magazine Papitu, manuscripts by Salvador Dalí and magazines by Dau al Set, which help to better explain the collection created by Joan Abelló in throughout his life.

At the same time, the Museum has also presented a new audio guide service, an initiative that has been carried out with the support of the Generalitat through the Visitmuseum project, and which can be downloaded to any mobile device. L’audioguia s’ha enregistrat en 4 llengües (català, castellà, anglès i francès). In Catalan and Spanish, it features the voice of the well-known Catalan actor Abel Folk and, in some passages, explanations can be heard from Joan Abelló himself.

Precisely, the new audio guide service integrated into the visitmuseum gives added value to the visitor and offers an updated and accessible exhibition discourse, which includes all available resources: audios, videos of works commented by experts and videos subtitled for people with hearing difficulties, a project made with the support of the Diputació de Barcelona.
