THE NETWORK OF ART MUSEUMS OF CATALONIA PRESENTS A COLLAGE BY THE ARTIST RANDOMAGUS ON THE OCCASION OF LGBTIQ + RELEASE DAY

This action joins those initiated in 2020 to visualize museums as benchmarks of the diversity of identities through their art collections.
The Network of Art Museums of Catalonia (XMAC), made up of 22 museum facilities, adheres to the demands of Pride Day, which is celebrated annually on 28 June.

This year’s action has been commissioned from the artist Randomagus (Agustí Martínez), with the aim of integrating sexual and gender diversity into a work of art. Randomagus has used images of works from Catalan art collections that, superimposed and embellished with floral and animal elements, take on a new meaning in a procession of pride belonging to the Network of Art Museums. The work can be seen through the social profiles of the museums on the same day of the LGBTIQ + Liberation.

The first joint action, linked to XMAC Pride Day, took place in 2020 and consisted of a selection of pieces that identified with the letters of the acronym LGBTIQ +. Last year, people linked to the group were invited to take a critical look at museums through audiovisual capsules that raised relationships and discovered new integrative and plural perspectives through some works of art.

The Network of Art Museums of Catalonia works throughout the year, through the Commission on Feminisms and Identities, to integrate gender and diversity perspectives into the permanent and temporary discourses of museums. The training of technical and management teams has been constant for the last three years with courses led in 2020 and 2021 by Miquel Missé, sociologist and activist for the rights of the transgender and transsexual group, and in 2022 by Víctor Ramírez Tur specialist in art and diversity of gender linked to the Autonomous University of Barcelona. From this last training, the aim is to generate a joint program that is accessible to the different museums throughout the year, with the aim of making museums visible as identity and transforming referents through their collections.
