The naked man. Stripping the archetypes of masculinity

FROM SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 TO JANUARY 9, 2022 /
This exhibition aims to strip the man, from a feminist position, fleeing from myths and ideas that have also imprisoned him, questioning the binary view of gender and raising a very diverse concept of identities.
Breaking these categories also fights to free man from the traditional notion of masculinity, virility and power. Visualizing the male bodies in the museum’s holdings in a tour of Catalan art in the 19th and 20th centuries aims to highlight the archetypes that have traditionally been associated with masculinity, but also the clichés that artists have been breaking and , in this way, take a step to dismantle them and get rid of the ideas that limit us. This look from the present will become even more visible with the contemporary works that accompany the historical ones.
Exhibition organized by the Cultural Heritage Office of the Culture Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Cerdanyola Art Museum and the Abelló Museum in Mollet del Vallès.
